We just got a free used 30" NEC television, huge and heavy. When we hook
up the DVD player, (via the video, and audio l & R jacks in the back) we
hear an excess of static electricity buildup from inside the back of the
tv (and a little pop and crackle coming from the front left speaker),
and it builds and builds until a loud "Snap" which causes the screen to
go blank for a fraction of a secong, and fade back in. The snap
continues intermittently as long as the tv remains on, whether DVD is
playing or not. If on the next day, we turn tv on without playing the
DVD, but using the tuner in the VCR/DVD player to pickup the VHF
channels, it is fine, little or no static charge. Soon as DVD becomes
played, instantly storm of static ensues. We are going to try using theTarget
charge card, found in a day planner from a Bushwick thrift store,
to purchase a S-video cable, perhaps that will solve problem.
Otherwise, is there an adaptor or
device or even an aerosol spray that can prevent static electricity from
becoming such an annoyance in our viewing habit? Our apartment is moist.
